Hardware Design & Deployment
Infinity Data Center provides custom server and storage hardware design, specification, and deployment services. We build systems tailored to specific workload requirements, balancing performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Whether you need virtualization hosts, storage appliances, or specialized compute systems, we specify and deploy hardware that meets your exact needs.
Custom Server Builds
We design and build servers for specific purposes rather than offering generic configurations. Our approach starts with understanding your workload requirements — CPU intensity, memory needs, storage performance characteristics, and network throughput demands. We then specify hardware components that deliver the performance you need without paying for capabilities you will not use.
Proxmox Virtualization Hosts
Specialized server builds optimized for Proxmox VE environments including:
- CPU selection based on VM density and workload characteristics
- Memory configuration supporting overcommit ratios and specific guest requirements
- Storage tier design using NVMe, SSD, and spinning disk appropriately
- Network interface selection for management, VM traffic, and storage networks
- Hardware RAID controllers or ZFS configurations as appropriate
- Out-of-band management interface configuration (IPMI, iDRAC, iLO)
Compute & Application Servers
Purpose-built servers for specific application workloads:
- Database servers with optimized storage subsystems and memory configurations
- Application servers balanced for CPU and memory requirements
- Web servers optimized for concurrent connection handling
- Mail servers with appropriate storage and redundancy characteristics
- Development and test systems balancing capability with cost
Storage Solutions
We design and deploy storage systems from small NAS appliances to enterprise storage infrastructure:
Network Attached Storage (NAS)
- File server appliances for SMB/CIFS and NFS sharing
- Backup target systems with deduplication capability
- Media storage for video and large file requirements
- Snapshot-capable systems for data protection
- Replication configurations for disaster recovery
Storage Area Networks (SAN)
- iSCSI target configuration for block-level storage
- Fiber Channel infrastructure when performance demands require it
- Multi-path configuration for redundancy
- LUN provisioning and access control
- Storage tier design using appropriate drive types
Backup Storage Systems
- Proxmox Backup Server deployments with deduplication
- Rsync target systems with snapshot capability
- Long-term archive storage using appropriate media
- Offsite backup infrastructure at secondary locations
Storage Architecture Considerations
Storage design requires careful consideration of multiple factors:
- Performance requirements: IOPS demands, throughput needs, latency sensitivity
- Capacity planning: Current needs, growth projections, retention requirements
- Data protection: RAID levels, snapshot frequency, replication topology
- Access patterns: Sequential vs random I/O, read/write ratios
- Integration: Protocol support, network requirements, compatibility
Hardware Specification Process
Our hardware design process follows a systematic approach:
- Requirements gathering: Understanding workload characteristics and constraints
- Architecture design: Overall system design including redundancy and scaling
- Component selection: Specific hardware choices with rationale
- Performance validation: Verification that design meets requirements
- Cost optimization: Value engineering to reduce cost without compromising needs
- Documentation: Detailed specifications and deployment procedures
Deployment & Integration
Hardware deployment includes:
- Physical installation in racks with proper cable management
- BIOS/UEFI configuration and firmware updates
- Operating system installation and base configuration
- Storage subsystem initialization and RAID configuration
- Network interface configuration and testing
- Management interface setup and documentation
- Initial performance validation and burn-in testing
Expansion & Upgrade Services
As your needs grow, we provide expansion services including memory upgrades, storage expansion, CPU upgrades where supported, and incremental capacity additions. We maintain configuration documentation to simplify future expansion decisions.
Hardware Consultation
Not ready for deployment? We offer hardware consultation services including workload analysis, capacity planning, architecture review, and vendor selection guidance. Our goal is to help you make informed hardware investment decisions.
Honest Positioning
We design and deploy excellent hardware infrastructure, but we are not a hardware warranty service or 24/7 break-fix operation. We specify reliable components, deploy them properly, and remain available for support, but ongoing maintenance and warranty support remains your responsibility or can be contracted separately. This allows us to focus on what we do best — solid technical engineering work.
Contact us to discuss your server and storage requirements. We will provide honest assessment of what can be accomplished and detailed proposals for recommended solutions.
