FuseMail SecureSMART is now VIPRE Email Security
Short answer: SecureSMART was not discontinued. It was renamed.
Same filtering engine, same administration portal, same policy model. We managed it as FuseMail and we manage it as VIPRE.
What happened
FuseMail and VIPRE were both brands under the same corporate parent, j2 Global. The email security products were consolidated under the VIPRE name, and SecureSMART became VIPRE Email Security. The trademark filings tell the story plainly: SECURESMART, WEBSMART and CLICKSMART were all registered by J2 Global Ireland Limited in 2016, EncryptSMART in 2017, and FUSEMAIL itself back in 2003.
Nothing was switched off. If you were running SecureSMART, you are running VIPRE Email Security, on the same infrastructure, with the same six layers of scanning.
What SecureSMART did, and still does
- Three hostnames replace your MX records, so all inbound mail passes through the filter before it reaches your server
- Inbound scanning for viruses, malware, spam and spoofing, with outbound filtering available as well
- Quarantine digests sent daily or several times a day, so users release their own mail instead of calling you
- Optional quarantine of anything failing SPF or DKIM, which is what stops most spoofed and phishing mail
- Attachment policy by type, size or count, including stripping an infected attachment while keeping the message
- Seven days of automatic spooling, so mail is held rather than bounced when your server is unreachable
- Fourteen days of email replay
What changed in the plan structure
The old inbound-only and inbound-plus-outbound split was simplified. The current line is Essentials Inbound Only, Email Cloud which adds ninety days of continuity, and Total Email Protection which adds API-native defence inside Microsoft 365 on top of the gateway.
